KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 10): Bursa Malaysia has recouped its earlier losses to end Monday's (Jan 10) morning trading session slightly higher, buoyed by improved risk appetite in selected heavyweights, amidst the cautious sentiment on the regional market.

At 12.30pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 2.55 points to 1,545.66 from Friday’s closing of 1,543.11.

The index, which opened 0.27 of-a-point better at 1,543.38, moved between 1,540.31 and 1,546.72 throughout the session.

On the broader market, however, losers surpassed gainers 479 to 382, while 381 counters were unchanged, 1,031 untraded and 21 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 3.83 billion units valued at RM1.09 billion.

Rakuten Trade said the FBM KLCI is expected to face some selling pressure following its strong closing last Friday.

“Considering the heightened market volatility, we reckon regional markets to perform similarly which could impact the local bourse’s performance. Therefore, we anticipate the index to possibly trend within the 1,535-1,545 range [on Monday] with some downside bias.

“As for crude oil prices, Brent crude price remained elevated, hovering close to the US$82 per barrel,” it said in a research note on Monday.
