KYALA LUMPUR: TH Heavy Engineering Berhad (THHE) has sealed a strategic collaboration agreement with SMHB Sdn Bhd (SMHB), a mega infrastructure engineering consultant, to jointly undertake future development projects and leverage on the latter's strong technical capabilities and experience.

"The agreement aims to build up capabilities and capacity, particularly in the areas of project management, project planning, design, engineering and construction of water treatment plants and waste management plants. 

"This will enable THHE to ensure operational readiness to offer attractive and compelling technical and commercial solutions for future water, wastewater, flood mitigation and highway infrastructure requirements entailed in the 12th Malaysia Plan and beyond " THHE said.

THHE chief executive officer Ahmad Yusof Mohamad said the collaboration has the potential to unlock, given the strong prospects Malaysia holds in terms of future infrastructure needs. 

"There has been steady growth in the development sector as we move into the endemic phase and we are optimistic that momentum will continue to ramp up from here. 

"Given our corporate framework, this will provide us with a competitive edge to ensure timely delivery of projects while safeguarding national interest."

SMHB, he said, was a well-established partner with an impressive track record of more than 50 years of experience in delivering mega infrastructure projects for Malaysia. 

"Our expansion into this segment demonstrates our determination and agility as we strive to reinforce THHE's financial standing," Ahmad Yusof added.

Syed Mohamed Adnan, executive director of SMHB, said with THHE's strategic positioning and forthcoming regularisation plan, it was confident of the skillset and technical know how it has to offer given its solid foundation in engineering. 

"We look forward to exploring potential prospects for both parties while leveraging on each other's strengths."

SMHB, which is an associate company of HSS  Engineers Bhd, has completed more than 1,000 projects.

This included 78 dams, 65 water treatment plants, 23 sewage treatment plants, 2,800 km of pipeline, 40 drainage, flood mitigation and irrigation works, and 32 rail, road, highway and bridge projects.
