Bursa Malaysia closes lower at midday

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia extended its downtrend in the morning trading session following a flat opening.

At 12.30 pm, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI shed 8.57 points or 0.59 per cent to 1,442.96 points after trading within 1,439.13 and 1,451.72 range.

Losers surpassed gainers 473 to 261 at the broader market while 448 counters remained unchanged.

A total of 1.73 billion shares changed hands before the market pauses for midday break.

Other indexes were also in the red with FBM 100 dropping 0.5 per cent or 51.93 points to 10,331.93, FBM Ace shed 0.65 per cent or 34.28 points to 5,251.28 and FBM Emas dropped 0.47 per cent or 50.27 points to 10,647.71.

Among the most active stocks on the bourse was Awanbiru Technology Bhd which gained 25.71 per cent or 0.045 sen to 22 sen.

This was after it submitted its written representations to Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd yesterday on why it should remain as a listed entity.

The company was categorised as an Affected Listed Issuer in January 2021.

Kawan Food Bhd was among the top losers after its shares dropped 5.95 per cent orĀ 11 sen to RM1.74.

Kawan posted lower net profit and revenue for the second quarter. Its earnings dropped 71.7 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to RM3.2 million while revenue dropped 16.1 per cent YoY to RM67.5 million.
