Mavcom awards commercial ground handling licences to 30 companies

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has approved thirty companies to provide ground handling services on a commercial basis at specific airports.

All ground-handling service providers are required be approved by the commission from this month onwards in addition to having technical approval from the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia.

In a statement, Mavcom said ground handling services include, among others, check-in counter services, baggage handling, catering, ramp handling and refuelling services.

Mavcom executive chairman Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Abdullah Ahmad (pic) said as an independent regulator for the aviation industry overseeing commercial and economic matters, the commission placed importance not only on ensuring high standards by airports and airlines, but also other relevant entities involved in the industry.

“These stringent steps taken by the commission is ultimately to safeguard consumers and it is our hope that this will continue to elevate our nation’s competitiveness in terms of aviation within the region,” he said.

The companies approved are Aerodarat Services sdn Bhd, Aerohandlers Sdn Bhd, BCS Contract & Supply Services Sdn Bhd, Brahim’s SATS Food Services Sdn Bhd, Bukit Wang Resources (M) Sdn Bhd, Cloudera Aviation Services Sdn Bhd, Conor Engineering Services Sdn Bhd, D’viation Technics Sdn Bhd, Elite Jets Sdn Bhd, Ground Team Red Sdn Bhd, Hasrat Asia (M) Sdn Bhd, Helitech Aviation Services Sdn Bhd, Jet Fuels Sdn Bhd, KLM Line Maintenance Sdn Bhd, Malindo Airways Sdn Bhd, Mas Awana Services Sdn Bhd, MNM Aviation Services Sdn Bhd, Nusantara Aviation Services Sdn Bhd, Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Bhd, Petronas Dagangan Bhd, POS Aviation Sdn Bhd, Raya Airways Sdn Bhd, Sabah Air Aviation Sdn Bhd, Safeair Technical Sdn Bhd, Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd, Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd, Shell Timur Sdn Bhd, Skypark FBO Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Smooth Route Sdn Bhd, and Total Megalink Sdn Bhd.

Moving forward, any person or entity operating as a ground handler without the licence from Mavcom will be committing an offence. On conviction, they may be liable to a fine not exceeding RM1mil or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to both.

In the case of continuing offence, the offender in addition to the penalty provided, will be liable to a fine not exceeding RM50,000 for every day during which the offence continues after conviction.
