Furniture makers happy with RM100mil loan

PETALING JAYA: The RM100mil loan facility, the first ever allocation for automation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), is a timely push for industry players to invest in automation to address labour shortage, Malaysian Furniture Council president Chua Chun Chai said.

He said furniture factories were keen to automate their production to reduce dependence on foreign labour and enhance efficiency.

“About 300 to 400 of 1,000 furniture makers nationwide have embarked on automation,” he said.

Chua said hopefully, it would be a soft loan with low interest, and that the Government would consider topping up the amount once the RM100mil was used up to benefit more furniture factories.
