Wan Azmi on E&O, snakes and knife-making
From pythons and durian farming to insights into the property market and why retirement doesn’t work for him, businessman Tan Sri Wan Azmi Wan Hamzah (pic) waxed lyrical in a casual chat with StarBizweek this week.
“Creativity has not died in me” enthuses the tycoon, who in the last few years has gone into farming, knife-making and painting, among other pastimes. This week, he surprised the corporate world with a ‘re-entry’ into Eastern & Oriental Bhd (E&O), a company he had a long history with.Wan Azmi, via his corporate vehicle, Sweetwater SPV Sdn Bhd, has forked out RM127.6mil for a 9.09% stake in E&O through a private placement exercise.
For Wan Azmi, spending this huge amount of money is not surprising.
Wan Azmi, along with his wife Puan Sri Nik Anida Nik Manshor, stand to pocket a whopping RM570mil from the sale of their 30% stake in Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash) that took place late last year.
