Reference is made to the Company’s announcements dated 5 May 2021, 25 May 2021, 14 March 2023, 17 March 2023, 8 November 2023, 8 December 2023, 19 December 2024, 17 January 2025 and 13 May 2025 in relation to the Notices received by UEML and SHSB.
Unless otherwise stated, the definitions used herein shall have the same meanings as set out in the earlier announcements.
The Company wishes to announce that on 8 October 2025, the Federal Court allowed the Attorney General Chambers’ appeal against the decision of the Court of Appeal on 19 December 2024 which allowed UEML’s leave for a judicial review application against the Minister of Finance and the stay of the payments of the remaining additional taxes, penalty and interest on instalments.
Therefore, the Court of Appeal’s decision dated 19 December 2024 is set aside and the High Court’s decision to dismiss UEML’s leave for a judicial review application against the Minister of Finance is affirmed. As such, the stay of tax payment previously granted by the Court of Appeal has now lapsed.
UEML will continue to proceed with its appeal before the Special Commissioner of Income Tax.
