The Board of Directors of Leong Hup International Berhad (“LHI” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Datuk Lau Joo Hong (“Datuk Lau”) as the Group Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) with effect from 29 September 2020. As the Group COO, Datuk Lau shall have oversight of operational matters under LHI and its subsidiaries (the “Group”) as well as assume responsibility for the execution of the Group’s overall strategies. Apart from his new role as Group COO, Datuk Lau continues his present position as Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) for the Group’s Vietnam operations.

Datuk Lau, male, a Malaysian aged 50, was appointed as a Director of LHI on 9 September 2014, prior to its listing to the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad. He has over 21 years of experience and expertise in the integrated livestock industry and retail market.

He began his career in the family poultry business in 1991 when he joined one of the Group’s subsidiaries which was principally involved in the processing and marketing of chicken and related products, where he oversaw the entire operations of that subsidiary. In 1994, he was also assigned the responsibility of overseeing the entire operations of another subsidiary principally involved in food processing products. He was transferred to Astaka Shopping Centre (Muar) Sdn Bhd (“Astaka”), another family business in 1996 where he was responsible for the overall operations of Astaka until the family’s decision to venture into Vietnam’s poultry business in 2007 where he planned and executed the expansion plan. He led the Group’s Vietnam operations as Deputy CEO until his promotion in 2014 to CEO. He has been leading the expansion of the Group’s Vietnam operations since its incorporation.
