Puan Norhayati binti Hashim is a retired professional and experienced lawyer with more than thirty-one (31) years of experience. Her attention to details maximised the legal and operational risks which benefitted the firms that she worked. She has extensive knowledge of governing laws and corporate banking. She started her career in June 1979 as the Federal Counsel in the Attorney General Chambers ("Chambers") of the Government of Malaysia ("Government"). She then became the Assistant Treasury Solicitor of the Government from August 1979 until July 1982. She was the Deputy Public Prosecutor from August 1982 until December 1984.

From 1986 to July 1987, she was the Company Secretary cum Legal Advisor with Bina Telecommunications Sdn Bhd. Thereafter, she joined Telekom Malaysia Berhad as the Company Secretary cum Legal Advisor until January 1991.

She became the Head of Legal Affairs of Bank Bumiputra Malaysia Berhad, Bumiputra Commerce Bank and CIMB Bank Berhad from 1991 to 2004.

Thereafter, she was the Deputy General Manager in Legal Affairs  (Litigation) of CIMB Investment Bank Berhad until her retirement in November 2010.
