Chao Kar Po  began her career with Pos Malaysia (now known as Pos Malaysia Berhad, a company listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad ("Bursa Securities")) as Accountant in April 1995. In October 1995, she left Pos Malaysia and joined Lysaght Galvanized Steel Berhad ("Lysaght") (a company listed on the Main Market of Bursa Securities) as Accounts Executive and was subsequently promoted to Group Accountant in March 1999. 

In May 2002, she left Lysaght and joined Chongai Knitting Company Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of Eksons Corporation Berhad (a company listed on the Main Market of Bursa Securities)) as Group Accountant. She was then transferred to Eksons Corporation Berhad in May 2003 and was promoted to Group Financial Controller in July 2004.  After she left Eksons Corporation Berhad in February 2005, she joined B. P. Clinical Lab Sdn Bhd as Accountant at its headquarters in Ipoh, Perak. She subsequently joined Hovid Berhad (a company listed on the Main Market of Bursa Securities) as Accountant from May 2009 to September 2010.

In November 2010, she joined Old Town International Sdn Bhd as the Financial Controller, a position she continued to hold when she was subsequently transferred to Oldtown Berhad in May 2011. She was transferred to Kopitiam Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd in January 2012 and was subsequently promoted to General Manager, Finance and Accounts in April 2012, followed by a promotion to Senior General Manager in April 2017. In March 2020, she was transferred to White Cafe Sdn Bhd where she was tasked to ensure business continuity during the integration and transition period to retain critical business knowledge of the group of companies. She left White Cafe Sdn Bhd in December 2021 and assumed the role of Finance Advisor of Super FI (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Jacobs Douwe Egberts, from January 2022 until her early retirement in April 2022.
