KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 9): Trophy maker Emico Holdings Bhd announced that a fire incident occurred at its unit’s manufacturing plant in Penang on Sunday (Jan 8).

In a filing on Monday, Emico said the fire occurred at 3am on Sunday at one of the two manufacturing plants of the company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Emico Penang Sdn Bhd.

It noted that the incident did not result in any fatalities, nor was any of its workers injured.

“Currently, the fire department is in the midst of conducting (an) investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire,” Emico said.

“The damages caused by the fire had affected amongst others, the stocks in transit area, packaging and office area, as well as the TNB (Tenaga Nasional Bhd) sub-station,” it added.

Emico said that the operations at the affected manufacturing plant ― Emico Penang Plant 2 ― are temporarily halted pending the restoration of the power supply.

“The management is mitigating the production disruption by expediting the appointment of contractors, as well as rescheduling the shipment of goods,” the company noted, adding that the other manufacturing plant and production facilities are unaffected and operating as usual.

According to the company’s 2022 Annual Report, Emico Penang is principally involved in manufacturing original equipment manufacturer products, awards, trophy components, medallions, souvenirs, gift items, furniture products and general trading.

Shares in Emico closed down half a sen or 1.64% at 30 sen, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM36.48 million.
