Focus Point: More Than Just an Optical Retailer

Focus Point is a familiar name to many Malaysians, but the investment story today is not just about selling spectacles or sunglasses.

The bigger point is that Focus Point sits in an essential eye-care space. Vision care is something people continue to need across different stages of life. Children may need eye checks for learning and myopia management. Office workers may need proper vision care after long hours of screen time. Older customers may need more regular screening as part of preventive health care.

Eye care is practical, recurring and closely linked to everyday quality of life. This makes Focus Point different from many retail businesses that depend mainly on “nice-to-have” spending, and it also makes the Group’s wider eye-care platform more meaningful.

As at June 2026, Focus Point had 210 optical outlets across Malaysia, with a presence across all states since December 2025. This nationwide footprint gives the Group a strong base to serve customers wherever demand is growing, from major malls and townships to East Malaysia and tourist destinations.

But the story is not only about having more stores. Focus Point is also strengthening what those stores can offer.

Through its 360° Advanced Primary Eye Care roadshows, the Group provided free screenings to 13,779 individuals in 2026. Its AirDoc AI Fundus technology is also available across 110 outlets, supporting early detection of eye-health conditions. This helps position Focus Point as more than an eyewear retailer. It is becoming part of the broader eye-care and preventive health ecosystem.

The Group is also serving more corporate customers, with 916 optical corporate customers as at June 2026. This gives Focus Point exposure to workplace eye-care needs, employee welfare programmes and corporate screening activities.

The financial results support this direction. For the first half of FY2026, Focus Point recorded its highest-ever first-half revenue and profit. Revenue grew 4.9% year-on-year to RM152.8 million, while PAT increased 11.3% year-on-year to RM18.2 million.

The Optical segment remains the main driver. In 2QFY2026, Optical revenue rose 8.1% year-on-year to RM65.5 million, while Optical PBT increased 3.7% year-on-year to RM13.1 million.

For retail investors, dividends add another point to consider. Focus Point has enhanced its dividend policy to a 50% payout, with quarterly distributions moving forward. This means shareholders have clearer visibility on regular cash returns, on top of any potential long-term capital appreciation.

The takeaway is simple: Focus Point is not just opening more optical shops. It is building a wider eye-care platform from a brand Malaysians already recognise. If the Group continues to execute well, this could support earnings growth and shareholder returns over time.
