KUALA LUMPUR: Packaging company Ire-Tex Corp Bhd has appointed Tan Yeang Tze as its new chief executive officer (CEO), effective yesterday.

Tan, 43, will fill the position left vacant by Saharun Nizam Saharan, fired in January just five months into the post.

Before joining Ire-Tex, Tan was Daza Holdings Sdn Bhd’s corporate manager from August 2017 to May 2018.

Concurrently, Tan will continue serving as a “freelance corporate advisory for various public-listed companies” — a position that he has helmed since January 2016.

He also served as personal assistant to chairmen and advisers of various public-listed companies between 2003 and 2015.

Ire-Tex’s separate filings with Bursa Malaysia also show two of its executive directors, implicated in a boardroom tussle last year, have resigned effective June 1.

The firm said Hamdan Mohd Nor, 54, and Kong Hon Kay, 49, have resigned to “pursue personal interests”.

Hamdan was appointed executive director of Ire-Tex last year under the proposal of Ire-Tex’s largest shareholder, Singapore-based Elite Cosmo Group Ltd.

On June 21, 2017, Hamdan and Kong were among 19 individuals implicated alongside Elite Cosmo in a lawsuit by a group of existing directors of Ire-Tex.

The suit was discontinued on Dec 15 last year, on the grounds that the action was unsustainable “due to the numerous applications, filed by several defendants, to strike out”.
